Below are some of the frequently asked questions regarding backing up your Mac, whether you’re on a laptop, desktop, and are wondering about what you can do. Do you have any questions that aren’t seen here? Let us know.
How do I Backup a Mac without Time Machine?
If you happen to have a Mac without time Machine, you should be backing up to the cloud. Not having any backup solution at all is running the risk that all your data could be gone in the blink of an eye. You may want to consider some of the online backup options for your Mac.
Can I Backup my Mac to an External Hard Drive?
Absolutely! Depending on how large your hard drive is, and how detailed you want your backups to be, the minimum size external hard drive I would recommend is 1TB. Of course, make sure that you have Time Machine set to backup regularly, otherwise all that hard drive will be good for is collecting dust. Read my post on backing up with TimeMachine for help!
What is Cloud Backup?
Cloud Backup, or backing up to the cloud is a convenient way of backing up your Mac. Put simply, the Cloud is virtual storage, often provided by a third-party service that will sell you space online for you to back up your data. See our resources page for a list of services we recommend for cloud backup.
Can I use Cloud Backup and an External Hard Drive?
Sure! It’s actually my preferred method of backing up. It’s a solid backup plan because you’re covered if something happens to your local hard drive, as well as the unlikely situation of something happening with whatever online option you choose.
